Ernest Hemingway is an American author and journalist and his understated influence on 20th-century fiction is the inspiration of this artwork set. These book cover design is created with a touch of humor and modern art for E. H's world renowned classic novels. Minimal but symbolic. Enjoy reading!

This book jacket series is for Ernest Hemingway's most well-known novels "A Farewell to Arms", "The Sun Also Rises" and "The Old Man and the Sea".

Hemingway’s writing style is simple, direct and unadorned and his novels are ofter semi-autobiographical. My idea was to apply these factors to my book covers by portraying Hemingway from the year he wrote the specific novel and, somewhat carelessly, paint on him. The doodles give hints of the inside; the symbols and the plot.

I wanted to create a clash between these world-renowned classics and Hemingway’s modern way of writing with a bit of humor. The project is made at SVA in a course called Communication Design 2, issued by Nic Taylor and Brett Kilroe.

I have used Photoshop, InDesign and good old pencil and gouache colors for the project.
